Our team is further growing: Welcome Juyong Bak

We are happy to welcome Juyong Bak to the DeltAs team who joined us on September 1, 2024, as a PhD student at University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Juyong earned a B.S. in Environmental Science and Ecological Engineering at Korea University (2021) and a M.S. in Civil and Environmental Engineering at Seoul National University (2023). During his M.S. studies, he focused on investigating the immobilization mechanisms of arsenic (As) with ferrihydrite through various batch experiments and analytical techniques.

With his strong research background on arsenic, Juyong is the perfect match for the DeltAs project. His research will focus on three main objectives:

  1. identifying biogeochemical reactions within delta sediments that control porewater As,
  2. validating hydrogeological predictors of groundwater As determined by collaborators using reactive transport modeling tools, and
  3. contributing to the development of a generalizable model to predict groundwater As on a regional scale.

Please join us in welcoming Juyong to our team. We wish him all the best for his PhD project!
