Welcome to our team: Jacob Bothen joins as PhD student

We are excited to announce the newest addition to our team, Jacob Bothen, who joined us on June 1, 2024, as a PhD student at ETH Zurich / Eawag.

PhD student Jacob Bothen

Jacob was born and raised in Canada, and he grew up in a small town in the Niagara Region, Ontario which is known for the Niagara Falls and as one of the best wine/fruit regions in Canada. Jacob completed his Hon. B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Environmental Chemistry from Trent University and McMaster University, respectively.

During his time in Canada, Jacob already gathered quite some research experience in analytical chemistry and (in-)organic geochemistry, for example with the molecular characterization of dissolved organic matter in estuaries.

Within DeltAs he will investigate the distribution of Arsenic (As) groundwater contamination in the Mekong River and Red River Delta’s in Vietnam, including temporal changes from previous assessments, the chemical speciation of As and correlations to other geochemical quantities.

Please join us in welcoming Jacob to our team. We look forward to achieving great things together!
