GARD2026
Join us for GARD2026: Groundwater Arsenic Research Days, 22 – 26 November 2026, at the stunning Monte Verità, Ascona, Switzerland.
Scope of the workshop

The GARD2026 workshop aims to bring together senior experts and junior researchers from hydrogeology, biogeochemistry, remote sensing, data science and international policy-making to consolidate knowledge and jointly develop a multiscale and multidisciplinary approach to tackle As contamination issues. With this aim, our workshop will eventually contribute to ensuring sustainable groundwater resources for millions of people in Southeast Asia and similar global contexts.
Our workshop will focus on 5 selected topics:
- New developments in biogeochemical process understanding at the pore scale: insights on As (im)mobilization
- Linking hydrology to hydrochemistry for transport modeling of As within and across aquifers
- From the aquifer to the catchment-scale: large-scale dynamics connecting the water cycle with hydrochemistry
- Developments in biogeochemical, hydrogeological, reactive transport and geospatial modeling
- Implications for water management and policy
The workshop will feature keynote presentations by internationally renowned experts from across the thematic fields. These keynotes, along with focused input talks, will lay the foundation for dynamic, moderated round table discussions aimed at generating innovative ideas for integrated research approaches.
A central goal of the workshop is to foster in-depth dialogue and encourage meaningful collaboration across disciplines. To support this, all early-career researchers will present posters, which will remain on display throughout the event and be explored in dedicated poster sessions.
Complementing the academic program, social events—including a welcome apéro, a group dinner, and an excursion—will offer additional opportunities for informal exchange and networking in a relaxed setting.
